What is NIISQ?
The National Injury Insurance Scheme, Queensland (NIISQ) is a no-fault insurance scheme that funds necessary and reasonable care and support for people who have sustained serious personal injuries in motor vehicle accidents in Queensland.
If you or a loved one has been injured in a road crash and is now living with a long-term disability as a result — NIISQ may be able to support your recovery, rehabilitation, and ongoing care.

Who is Eligible for NIISQ?
You may be eligible for NIISQ if you sustained a serious injury in a motor vehicle accident in Queensland on or after 1 July 2016. Examples of eligible injuries include:
- Traumatic brain injury
- Spinal cord injury
- Severe burns
- Multiple or complex fractures
- Permanent blindness caused by the accident
The injury must be significant and require long-term care and support to be considered under NIISQ.
What Support Can NIISQ Fund?
NIISQ can cover a wide range of services and supports that are considered necessary and reasonable, including:
- Attendant care and daily living assistance
- Hospital and medical treatment
- Physiotherapy and rehabilitation therapies
- Mobility equipment and home modifications
- Return-to-work or education support
All support is tailored to your individual needs and regularly reviewed to ensure it evolves with your goals.
How Does NIISQ Work?
Once accepted into the scheme, you’ll be assigned a care team through NIISQ who will work with you to build a personalised plan. This plan outlines the supports you need and how they’ll be delivered.
You can choose to receive support directly through NIISQ or from a registered provider like Unidex Healthcare. Our team can work directly with NIISQ and with you to coordinate services in line with your plan.
